The bocci game

The Knights of St.John played the first bocci game named as

“maghio”. It is similar to the game that is played nowadays. The first

game was played in Zabbar and Kottonera. //

 

This game consists of three players; playing with two teams

respectively. Each player can have four big bocci and three small

ones.//

 

In Malta, thirty five clubs were founded after the first bocci committee was introduced in the 1980’s. //

 

Qrendi Bocci Club ,is one of the oldest teams in Malta. Players are  still training and competing against other respective local teams. //

 

When visiting Qrendi’s bocci club facility , upgrowing teenage player, Saviour Tabone, told us about his interest in playing this popular Maltese game. //

Saviour also spoke to us about the ambitions of the team. Their target is to gain promotion after slipping into the last tiers of the leagues in recent years. //

 

 The club has made some important signings going forward, as this

year, they set their targets higher compared to previous years. //

Maltese people should appreciate the efforts that these players are putting in for the game, to keep up the tradition amongst young local people.//
